Wellness & Recovery

Corporate wellness in Woodside, NY

Most corporate wellness programmes fail for one reason: they are scheduled after work, so attendance collapses by week five and the invoice keeps arriving. The programmes that work are inside the working day, and the difference in adherence is not marginal — it is roughly three to one.

Not sure where to start? The ninety-minute assessment is free, involves nothing to sign, and ends with a written twelve-week programme you keep whether or not you join. Call 000-000-0000

We run programmes for a restaurant group in Sunnyside, two medical practices, a construction firm and a handful of small Queens offices. What they have in common is that the sessions happen during paid hours — at ten in the morning before service, or at two in the afternoon on a slow day — rather than being a benefit somebody is expected to use on their own time after a nine-hour shift.

The second thing that decides whether these work is what the sessions actually contain. A generic circuit is not what a kitchen crew or a construction team needs. They need hips, shoulders, carrying capacity and grip, because that is what wears out and what takes people off the schedule. An office team needs almost the opposite: thoracic extension, hip extension and anything that is not sitting.

And we report attendance honestly, including when it is bad. A wellness vendor with an incentive to make numbers look good is a vendor whose numbers do not mean anything. If a programme is not working we will tell you in month two, and we will tell you what we think the reason is — which is usually the schedule.

How a programme is built

Four weeks from first conversation to first session, typically.

  • A conversation about the actual work

What your people physically do all day, what they complain about, what takes them off the schedule, and what hours genuinely exist. This determines everything and it takes about an hour.

  • A voluntary screen for participants

Fifteen minutes each, entirely optional, and the results go to the individual rather than to you. Employers receive aggregate participation numbers only, never individual health information.

  • A schedule inside the working day

The single largest determinant of whether this works. Before service, on a slow afternoon, during a shift changeover — whatever exists in your operation. After-work sessions are the failure mode.

  • Sessions built for the job

Trades and kitchens: hips, shoulders, grip and carrying capacity. Offices: thoracic extension, hip extension and getting out of a chair. Desk and physical work need genuinely different programmes.

  • Monthly reporting, honest

Participation rate, session count and any pattern worth knowing. Never individual data. If the numbers are poor we will say so and propose a change rather than presenting them favourably.

  • A quarterly review

Whether to continue, change the schedule, or stop. We would rather end a programme that is not working than invoice for one indefinitely.

What we offer employers

Three formats, and they combine.

  • On-site coached sessions

A coach comes to you with whatever equipment the space allows. Works well for offices, practices and any operation with a clear floor and a scheduling window.

  • Sessions here, as a team block

Your team comes to Woodside at a reserved time. Better sessions, because all the equipment is here, and it works when your people are within a reasonable distance.

  • Subsidised individual memberships

Discounted rates for your staff on any tier, billed to the company in whole or in part. Simplest to administer and the most flexible for shift workers.

  • Movement screens as a one-off

Fifteen minutes per person with written individual feedback. Useful for physical-work teams, and often the thing that starts a conversation about a longer programme.

  • Education sessions

Sleep, shift work, nutrition on an irregular schedule, and lifting technique for people who lift for a living. Delivered by Elena or Priya depending on the topic. Thirty to sixty minutes.

Being honest about what this does

Corporate wellness is oversold as an industry and we would rather set expectations properly.

  • It will not fix a scheduling problem

If your people work eleven-hour shifts with no break, a wellness programme is not the intervention. We will say so, and it will cost us the contract.

  • Participation is the whole game

A programme at seventy per cent attendance changes things. One at twenty per cent is a line item. Everything we do about scheduling exists to move that number.

  • The health outcomes take a year

Strength, mobility and how people feel improve within a couple of months. Anything measurable at the level of absence or claims takes considerably longer, and anybody promising it in a quarter is guessing.

  • Voluntary means voluntary

Programmes with mandatory participation or health-data reporting to the employer produce resentment and bad data. We will not run one and we will not hand over individual results.

  • Small employers do better than large ones

Consistently, in our experience. A team of eleven where everybody knows everybody sustains attendance far better than a company of four hundred where the programme is an email.

Corporate Wellness in western Queens

It starts the same way whatever you are here for: ninety minutes with a coach, a movement screen, a handful of baseline numbers, and a written twelve-week programme in your hand at the end of it. The assessment is free, the programme is yours to keep, and there is nothing to sign.

Questions

Corporate Wellness — the questions we are asked most

Do you come to our office?

Yes — on-site coached sessions are $220 for sixty minutes with up to sixteen people, and we bring whatever equipment your space allows. We also run team blocks here in Woodside, which produce better sessions because all the equipment is available. Many programmes use both.

Why do you insist on sessions during work hours?

Because attendance is the entire game, and after-work programmes collapse by about week five. Sessions inside the working day sustain roughly three times the participation of sessions outside it. If a programme cannot be scheduled during paid hours, we will tell you honestly that it is unlikely to work.

Do we get to see our employees' health data?

No. Screens are voluntary and results go to the individual. Employers receive aggregate participation numbers only — how many people attended, how often. We will not hand over individual health information, and a vendor willing to is a vendor to be careful of.

How many people can attend a session?

Sixteen is our working maximum for a single coach, and twelve is better. Above sixteen we send a second coach, which is quoted separately. The coaching quality falls off sharply beyond that and it stops being worth doing.

What kind of businesses do you work with?

Mostly small Queens employers — a restaurant group, two medical practices, a construction firm and several offices. In our experience smaller teams sustain participation far better than large ones, because the programme is a shared thing rather than an email from head office.

What results should we expect?

Strength, mobility and how people report feeling improve within two to three months. Anything measurable at the level of absence or insurance claims takes considerably longer than a year, and anybody promising it in a quarter is guessing. We would rather tell you that at the start.

Is there a minimum commitment?

Twelve weeks for an ongoing programme, because anything shorter cannot demonstrate whether it works. One-off screens, education sessions and single team sessions have no minimum. There is a quarterly review at which either side can stop.

How do we start?

A free consultation and site visit. We will look at your space, ask what your people physically do all day, and find out what scheduling windows actually exist. If we do not think a programme would work for you, we will say so at that meeting.
