Coaching

Online coaching from Woodside, NY

The programme, the accountability and the coaching eye, delivered to wherever you actually train. Built for people who travel constantly, work nights, have a garage full of equipment, or simply live too far from 61st Street to make a commute sensible.

Not sure where to start? The ninety-minute assessment is free, involves nothing to sign, and ends with a written twelve-week programme you keep whether or not you join. Call 000-000-0000

Online coaching has a deserved reputation problem, because a great deal of it is a spreadsheet emailed once and a template shared by four hundred people. What makes it work is the same thing that makes in-person coaching work: somebody who knows your history, looks at your lifts, and changes the plan when the numbers say to.

So ours is deliberately narrow. You get one named coach from this building — the same six people who coach on this floor — a programme written for your equipment and your week, weekly video review of your main lifts with time-stamped notes, and a monthly call. There is no app to learn beyond a shared folder and a spreadsheet, because the technology has never been the hard part.

It also works well as a hybrid. A large share of our online members are Woodside members who travel for work: they train here when they are home and follow the online programme when they are in a hotel gym with two dumbbells and a bench. The programme accounts for both, which is a thing a generic plan cannot do.

What online coaching includes

Everything below is in the standard monthly rate. There is no tier above it that unlocks the coach actually replying to you.

  • A remote assessment

A sixty-minute video call, a health history, and a set of movement videos you record from angles we specify. It is not as good as being in the room and we will say so — but it catches the large things reliably.

  • A programme built for your actual equipment

A full commercial gym, a hotel with two dumbbells, a garage with a rack and a bar, or a hallway with a band. You tell us what exists and the programme uses only that. Nothing in it will require a machine you do not have.

  • Weekly video form review

Send your main lifts, get back time-stamped notes on specific reps by the next working day. This is the single most valuable part of the service and it is the part most online coaching quietly does not do.

  • A monthly call with your coach

Thirty minutes, scheduled, with a human being who has your training log open. Not a message thread — an actual conversation about what is working.

  • A rewrite every six weeks

New block, adjusted emphasis, planned easier weeks. Your log drives it. If you missed nine of the last eighteen sessions we will say so and build a programme around the week you actually have.

  • Messaging between sessions

For questions, not for coaching by text. Answered within a working day by the coach, not by a support desk.

Who this works for, and who it does not

We turn people away from online coaching regularly. It is not the right product for everybody and the failure mode is expensive.

  • Works: experienced trainees who need programming

If you can already squat, hinge and press competently, the thing you are missing is structure and an outside eye. Online delivers both efficiently and cheaply.

  • Works: travellers and shift workers

Anyone whose week is genuinely unpredictable. A written programme with built-in alternates beats a class timetable you can never attend.

  • Works: home and garage gyms

You have the equipment and the discipline; what you lack is a plan that progresses and somebody watching your bar path. Video review handles the second surprisingly well.

  • Works: hybrid members

Train here when home, follow the programme when away. Around a third of our online members are in this category and it is the strongest use case we have.

  • Does not work: absolute beginners

You need hands on you for the first twelve weeks. We will say so and point you at the in-person assessment instead, even though it is the more expensive product for you and the less profitable one for us.

  • Does not work: complex injury histories

A repaired shoulder or a spinal condition needs someone in the room. Priya will not take a post-rehab case online, and that is not negotiable.

How the first month runs

Deliberately front-loaded, because most online coaching fails in the first three weeks or not at all.

  • Week one — assessment and setup

The video call, the movement videos, the health history, and the first programme. Expect to spend about two hours on this, most of it talking.

  • Week two — technique, not load

Deliberately light so that your first video reviews are about movement quality rather than about surviving. Almost everybody wants to skip this and almost nobody should.

  • Weeks three and four — the programme proper

Loads start climbing, the logging pattern settles, and the weekly review rhythm establishes itself. This is where we find out whether the programme fits your real week.

  • End of month one — the honest conversation

Whether this is working, whether you are actually doing it, and whether you would be better served by something else. Roughly one in eight people is, and we would rather say so in month one than in month six.

Online Coaching in western Queens

A written programme, video form review and a real coach — for people who train somewhere else, or everywhere.

It starts the same way whatever you are here for: ninety minutes with a coach, a movement screen, a handful of baseline numbers, and a written twelve-week programme in your hand at the end of it. The assessment is free, the programme is yours to keep, and there is nothing to sign.

Questions

Online Coaching — the questions we are asked most

Does online personal training actually work?

For experienced trainees who need programming and accountability, yes — often as well as in-person coaching, because the limiting factor was never supervision. For absolute beginners it works poorly, and we will tell you that rather than take the money. The deciding question is whether you can already perform the basic movements competently.

How is this different from a fitness app?

An app gives you a template and a video library. You get one named coach from this gym, a programme built around the equipment you actually have, video review of your specific lifts with notes on specific reps, and a monthly call with a person who has your log open. The technology is deliberately simple; the coaching is the product.

Do I need a gym membership to do online coaching?

No. The programme is written for whatever equipment you have — a full commercial gym, a hotel with a pair of dumbbells, a garage rack, or nothing but a band and a doorway. Tell us what exists and nothing in the programme will require anything else.

How does the video form review work?

You film your main lifts from an angle we specify — usually a front-on and a forty-five-degree view — and share the file. Your coach returns time-stamped notes on specific reps by the next working day. It is the closest thing to having somebody in the room and it is included every week.

Can I do online coaching and train at the gym too?

Yes, and it is our most successful arrangement. Members who travel for work train here when they are home and follow the online programme when they are away. It is $95 a month added to any membership rather than the full standalone rate.

What if I am a complete beginner?

We will suggest you start in person, even though online is cheaper for you and easier for us. The first twelve weeks are where technique is set, and video review after the fact is a poor substitute for a coach adjusting your position between reps. Come in for the free assessment first and decide afterwards.

How often does the programme change?

Every six weeks as standard, and sooner if your log says it should. A programme that never changes stops working around week eight; a programme that changes every week never gives anything time to work. Six weeks is where most of the evidence sits.

Can I cancel any time?

Yes. It is month to month like every other membership here — no minimum term, no notice period, and no retention call. You keep every programme we have written for you.
