Open gym access in Woodside, NY

Some people want a coach. Some people want the room, the equipment and to be left alone — and that is a perfectly good reason to join a gym. Foundation membership is built for exactly that, and it still includes an assessment, a written programme and two orientations, because being left alone should not mean being abandoned.

Not sure where to start? The ninety-minute assessment is free, involves nothing to sign, and ends with a written twelve-week programme you keep whether or not you join. Call 000-000-0000

The commercial gym model treats the unsupervised member as a rounding error — someone who pays and does not attend, which is precisely the business it is designed around. Roughly half of what a big-box chain sells is a membership it hopes you will forget you have. We would rather you came.

So Foundation members get the same free assessment, the same written twelve-week programme, the same two equipment orientations and the same twelve-week retest as everybody else. The only difference between tiers is how much ongoing coaching you want, not whether anybody bothered to give you a plan on the way in.

And there is a coach standing on the floor during every staffed hour, from six in the morning to eight in the evening. Not selling anything — they are salaried — but available. Open Coaching Hour runs twice a week for exactly this, and it is the most under-used thing in the building.

What full access actually includes

Everything below is in Foundation at $89 a month, month to month.

  • Every floor, every opening hour

Strength floor, dumbbell and machine floor, cardio deck and functional zone. Open at five in the morning on weekdays, which the shift workers in this neighbourhood appreciate.

  • The assessment and a written programme

Ninety minutes with a coach, a movement screen, baseline numbers, and a twelve-week plan you keep. Included whether you ever speak to a coach again or not.

  • Two equipment orientations

A coach walks you through the floor and shows you how everything works. Nobody here trains a movement they have not been shown, and nobody should have to guess which lever does what while somebody waits behind them.

  • A twelve-week retest

Same measurements, same method, with a coach. Included at every tier. It is the meeting that tells you whether what you have been doing is working.

  • Locker room, towels and the water station

Day-use lockers, towel service and showers on both sides, plus a gender-neutral changing suite with three private rooms.

  • Guest passes

Bring somebody twice a month at no charge. It is the way most of our members actually joined.

When the gym is busy, and when it is not

Published honestly, because a crowded floor is the most common reason people stop coming and nobody else seems willing to write it down.

  • Busiest: weekdays, 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm

The strength floor runs at capacity and racks are occasionally shared. If your schedule has any flexibility at all, this is the block to avoid.

  • Quietest: weekdays, 5:00 am to 7:00 am

Genuinely empty. The same classes that have a waitlist at six in the evening run half full at six in the morning, all year.

  • Quiet: weekdays, 10:00 am to 3:00 pm

The best trade-off for anybody with flexible hours. Coaches are on the floor and the racks are free.

  • Moderate: weekday evenings after 8:00 pm

Thins out quickly after eight. A reasonable option for anyone finishing late.

  • Weekends: busy from 9:00 am to noon

Then quiet all afternoon. Sunday afternoon is the single quietest stretch of the week.

  • January

The whole month is busier. We deliberately hold capacity back rather than selling into it, and it settles by mid-February.

House rules, briefly

Short list, consistently enforced, and the reason the floor works at six in the evening.

  • Re-rack your weights

All of them, in the right place. This is the entire social contract of a shared gym floor.

  • Wipe down what you used

Benches, pads and handles. Spray and cloths are on every column.

  • Do not sit on a machine and use your phone

Rest between sets on a machine somebody is waiting for is fine. Ten minutes reading is not. Working in is normal and nobody will mind being asked.

  • Film yourself, not other people

Filming your own sets is completely fine and often useful. Filming anybody else is not, and nothing at all is filmed in the locker rooms or Studio Three.

  • Do not coach strangers

However well meant. If somebody's technique worries you, tell a coach — that is what they are on the floor for.

  • Chalk is allowed, sweeping up is expected

There is a bowl on the platforms. Use it, then leave the platform as you found it.

Questions

Open Gym Access — the questions we are asked most

How much is a gym membership in Woodside, NY?

Foundation is $89 a month for full access, an assessment, a written programme and two orientations. Off-peak is $65 a month. Coached is $189 and adds unlimited classes and small-group coaching. All are month to month with no initiation fee, no annual charge and no notice period.

Is there a joining fee or a contract?

No to both. There is no initiation fee, no minimum term, no annual maintenance charge and no notice period. You cancel with a form at the desk or an email and it stops at the end of the month you have already paid for. There is no retention call.

What are your opening hours?

Five in the morning until ten at night Monday to Thursday, until nine on Friday, seven to seven on Saturday and eight to six on Sunday. Coaches are on the floor from six in the morning to eight in the evening, seven days a week.

When is the gym busiest?

Weekday evenings between half past five and half past seven. The quietest stretches are weekday mornings before seven, weekday middays, and Sunday afternoons. We publish this honestly because a crowded floor is the most common reason people stop coming.

Can I try before I join?

Yes — a free one-week trial including classes, and a free ninety-minute assessment with a coach that carries no obligation. Nobody here is paid commission for signing you up, so the trial is not a sales appointment.

Can I freeze my membership?

Yes, for up to two months a year at no charge — for travel, injury, night shifts or simply a hard month. Tell us before the first and we will not bill you. You rejoin at the same price.

Do you have parking?

A small members' lot behind the building off 61st Street, free and first come first served. Realistically the 7 train is faster between four and seven in the evening, and the 61st Street–Woodside station is a two-minute walk.

Can I bring a guest?

Twice a month at no charge on Foundation, and as often as you like on Coached. Your guest completes a short health form at the desk. It is how most of our members first came through the door.
