Membership & pricing

What a gym membership actually costs in Woodside, NY

Fitness is one of the last industries where the advertised price is routinely not the price you pay — an initiation fee here, an annual charge in a quiet month there, and a notice period you discover only when you try to leave. Here is the whole of ours, on one page.

Three tiers

Pick the amount of coaching, not the amount of gym

Every tier includes the whole building, the free assessment, the written programme, two coached orientations and the twelve-week retest. What changes is how much of a coach's time comes with it.

Foundation

$89per month, month to month, no contract

The gym, the equipment and a written programme you actually follow. For people who train well on their own and want somewhere serious to do it.

  • Full access to the strength floor, cardio deck and functional zone, all opening hours
  • A ninety-minute assessment and a written twelve-week programme to start on
  • Two equipment orientations with a coach so nothing on the floor is a mystery
  • Programme review with a coach every twelve weeks, included
  • Locker room, towel service and the water station
  • Bring a guest twice a month at no charge
  • Cancel any time — a form at the desk, no notice period, no fee

Best for: Experienced trainees, shift workers, and anyone who mostly wants to be left alone.

One-to-One

$549per month, includes eight private sessions

Everything above, plus eight hours a month of a coach's undivided attention. For a specific goal with a real deadline, a complicated history, or a body that needs watching rather than instructing.

  • Everything in Coached
  • Eight private sixty-minute sessions a month with your named coach
  • Full movement screen and a written programme updated every session
  • Direct line to your coach between sessions for form video review
  • Reformer pilates and post-rehab sessions may be used interchangeably
  • Recovery suite access at any hour, including peak
  • Quarterly nutrition review with our dietitian

Best for: Return-to-training after injury, competition prep, and anyone training around a real constraint.

Month to month, cancel any time, and the price you join at is the price you keep for as long as you stay a member. Freezing is free, twice a year.

Comparing gyms

Why two gyms advertising $39 a month cost wildly different amounts

Because the monthly figure is rarely the whole price. Four questions separate them, and all four are invisible until you have already signed something.

  • Is there an initiation or enrolment fee?

A one-off charge of $50 to $200 at signup that never appears in the advertised price. It exists because the headline number is a marketing figure rather than a price, and because a fee paid up front makes leaving feel wasteful.

  • Is there an annual maintenance charge?

A second, separate charge that arrives once a year, usually in a quiet month, and usually equal to one to two months of membership. Almost every large chain has one. We have none.

  • Are classes included, or charged separately?

Frequently a class pass is a separate product, or the good classes are, or the timetable is included but effectively unbookable because it is uncapped and oversubscribed. Ours are capped, included on the Coached tier, and bookable fourteen days ahead.

  • What notice must you give to leave?

Thirty days is common, ninety is not unheard of, and some contracts require written notice by post. Add a minimum term and a cancellation that only takes effect months later, and the true cost of a cheap membership is considerably higher than the sticker.

What changes the number

How to spend less here, honestly

Several of these reduce what you pay us. We would rather you were on the right tier for three years than the expensive one for four months.

  • Train off-peak

Full access before four in the afternoon on weekdays and all weekend is $65 a month rather than $89. If your hours are flexible, this is the single largest saving available and the gym is genuinely nicer at those times.

  • Take coaching in a block, not forever

Twelve weeks of private coaching to set your technique and then a move to small-group is the pattern we recommend most often. It is cheaper than a year of private sessions and produces better long-term training.

  • Small group instead of one to one

Six people, one coach, individual loading, $40 a session — roughly a quarter of the cost of private coaching for most of the benefit. It is where the majority of our long-term members train.

  • Semi-private with a friend or partner

$60 each rather than $95 for essentially the same session, provided you both have broadly similar goals and experience. It also improves attendance, which matters more than the discount.

  • Use the free things

Open Coaching Hour twice a week, the twelve-week retest, the two orientations, the annual nutrition starter session on the Coached tier, and guest passes. All included, all under-used.

  • Freeze rather than cancel

Two months a year at no charge. Cancelling and rejoining costs you nothing here either, but freezing keeps your programme, your coach and your class history intact.

  • Ask about the rates

Student, senior and household rates are real and are twenty to thirty per cent. Nobody at the desk will offer them to you unprompted, which is a fault of ours rather than a policy.

Before you pay anything

Two free things, and neither is a sales appointment

Nobody in this building earns commission for signing you up, which is the only reason we can offer these without it being a pitch.

  • The assessment — ninety minutes with a coach, a movement screen, baseline numbers and a written twelve-week programme you keep. Nothing to sign.
  • The trial week — seven days of full access including classes, so you can try your intended time slot rather than a convenient one-off.
  • A first class — any class on the timetable, once, member or not.
  • Open Coaching Hour — turn up on a Saturday and ask a coach anything, including whether you should join at all.

Questions

What people ask about membership and price

How much does a gym membership cost in Woodside, NY?

Foundation is $89 a month for full gym access, a free assessment, a written twelve-week programme and two coached orientations. Off-peak is $65. Coached is $189 and adds unlimited classes, two small-group sessions a week and a named coach. One-to-One is $549 and includes eight private sessions a month. Every tier is month to month with no initiation fee, no annual charge and no notice period.

How much is a personal trainer in Woodside, NY?

A single sixty-minute session is $95, a block of ten is $850, and semi-private for two people is $60 each. The One-to-One membership at $549 a month includes eight sessions plus full access and unlimited classes, which works out at roughly $69 a session. Small-group coaching capped at six people is $40 a session, or included on the Coached tier.

Is there a joining fee or a contract?

Neither. No initiation fee, no minimum term, no annual maintenance charge and no notice period. You cancel with a form at the desk or an email and it stops at the end of the month you have already paid for. There is no retention call, and the price you join at is the price you keep.

Why are gym prices so hard to compare?

Because the advertised number is rarely the number you pay. The four things that account for almost all of it are the initiation fee, the annual maintenance charge that appears in a quiet month, whether classes are included or extra, and the notice period you must serve to leave. Ask any gym those four questions and the comparison becomes straightforward.

Can I freeze my membership?

Yes, for up to two months a year at no charge — for travel, injury, night shifts or a hard month. Tell us before the first of the month and we will not bill you, and you rejoin at the same price you were paying before.

Do you offer student or senior rates?

Yes, twenty per cent off any tier with valid identification, and it applies to the add-ons too. There is also a household rate: a second adult at the same address is thirty per cent off whichever tier they choose.
