How this place runs

Membership, safety and the rules of the floor

Everything that governs your membership, written where you can read it before you join rather than in a document produced at cancellation. There is no minimum term, no notice period and no clause here that exists to make leaving difficult.

First, the short version

Three things that are not in most gym contracts

Most of what makes a gym membership frustrating is not the price. It is that the terms were written to make leaving harder than joining, and nobody reads them until the day they want out.

Ours are the other way round, and the reason is commercial rather than noble: a business that has to trap people is a business whose product is not working.

  • No minimum term and no notice period. Cancel at the desk or by email and it stops at the end of the month you have paid for.
  • No initiation fee and no annual maintenance charge. The monthly figure is the entire cost of membership.
  • The price you join at is the price you keep, for as long as you remain a member, including through any general price change.

In full

The policies, in plain language

Seven of them. Every one is enforced the same way for every member, including the ones who have been here since 2009.

  1. Membership is month to month and that is the whole agreement

No minimum term, no initiation fee, no annual maintenance charge, no notice period. Billing is on the first of the month. Cancel with a form at the desk or an email to the club and it stops at the end of the month you have already paid for. There is no retention call.

  2. Freezing costs nothing, twice a year

Travelling, injured, working nights, or simply having a hard month — you may freeze your membership for up to two months a year at no charge and rejoin at the same price. Say so before the first of the month and we will not bill you for it.

  3. Health screening, and when we will ask for clearance

Everyone completes a short health history at the assessment. Where the answers indicate a cardiac condition, uncontrolled blood pressure, a recent surgery or a current pregnancy, we ask for written clearance from your provider before we load you. This is not a formality and we do not waive it.

  4. Every coach's credentials are on the wall and on request

Certification body, expiry date, CPR and AED currency. If a coach's certification lapses they come off the floor until it is current. Ask at the desk for any coach's file — we would rather you asked here than assumed everywhere else does the same.

  5. Class bookings, waitlists and no-shows

Coached members book fourteen days ahead, everyone else seven. Cancel more than two hours before and nothing happens. Three no-shows inside a month costs you priority booking for the following month, because a booked spot in a capped class is a spot somebody on the waitlist could have used.

  6. Equipment service is on a published schedule

Every machine is inspected monthly and serviced quarterly, cables and straps are replaced on a fixed cycle rather than when they fail, and the log is on the noticeboard by the desk. If something is out of order it gets tagged, and the tag says when it is expected back.

  7. Conduct, phones and the shared floor

Re-rack your weights. Wipe the bench. No filming anyone but yourself, and nothing at all in the locker rooms or Studio Three. Coaching another member's technique uninvited is for our coaches to do, not other members — however well meant. Harassment of any kind ends a membership the same day, without a refund and without a discussion.

This page is general information, not medical advice. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a treatment plan or a substitute for your own physician, physical therapist or registered dietitian. If you have a cardiac condition, uncontrolled blood pressure, a recent surgery, a current injury, an eating disorder or a pregnancy, speak to your provider before starting or changing a training or nutrition programme — and tell us what they say, because we build around written clearance rather than around what somebody remembers being told. Pain at rest, pain that wakes you at night, worsening symptoms or any neurological symptom need proper clinical assessment first, and we will say so rather than train through them.

Health and safety

When we will ask for medical clearance, and why we will not waive it

Every member completes a short health history at the assessment. Where the answers fall into one of the categories below, we ask for written clearance from your provider before we load you. This is not a formality and it is not negotiable, however keen you are.

  • A cardiac condition, or a cardiac event in the last year

Including arrhythmias, stents, bypass surgery and heart failure. Exercise is frequently exactly what is prescribed after these, and the prescription should come from a cardiologist rather than from us.

  • Uncontrolled or unmedicated high blood pressure

Resistance training raises blood pressure acutely and substantially. If yours is not under control, that needs addressing before we start rather than instead of starting.

  • Surgery within the last six months

We want the surgeon's protocol, not a recollection of it. Restrictions differ by procedure and by surgeon, and following the wrong one is worse than following none.

  • A current pregnancy, or under twelve weeks postpartum

Both are trainable and both need provider input. Several exercises come off the list and several go on it, and Priya handles all of these cases personally.

  • A diagnosed eating disorder, current or in recovery

Tell us and tell Elena. We do not weigh, photograph or discuss body composition with anybody who has asked us not to, and we will refer to clinical care rather than coach around it.

  • Any symptom that is getting worse

Pain at rest, pain that wakes you at night, numbness, weakness or anything neurological. That needs a clinician first. We will decline the booking and say why.

Worth knowing

Four things members find out too late elsewhere

  • A frozen membership is better than a cancelled one

Freezing keeps your rate, your coach, your programme and your class history. It is free twice a year here. Cancelling and rejoining costs nothing either, but you lose the continuity and somebody has to rebuild your file.

  • Class no-shows have a consequence, and it is not a fine

Three inside a month costs you priority booking for the following month. We do not charge for missed classes, because charging turns a courtesy problem into a transaction and does nothing to free the spot.

  • Personal training blocks never expire

Buy ten sessions, use them over two years if that is what your life allows. An expiring block is a mechanism for keeping money you did not earn, and we do not use one.

  • Your programme belongs to you

If you leave, you take every written programme with you. We would rather be the gym you understood than the gym you were dependent on, and a member who can train well elsewhere is a member who comes back.

Ask us anything on this page before you pay us anything

Bring the awkward questions to the assessment — what this costs in a year, what happens if I cancel, who is on the floor at the hour I come, and what each coach is certified by. Nobody here is paid commission for the answers.
